COMPONENT 3: SCHOOL READINESS
 

The purpose of this component is to immediately repair lightly damaged facilities to allow double-shifts of students each day for the recommencement of instruction in the new school year.

Objectives:
Assisted the school system ready as quickly as possible to restart instruction, YCAP:    

  1. Assisted communities and local agencies to repair lightly damaged school buildings, and
  2. Replaced damaged or lost equipment, furnishings, and teaching materials, and when required, water supply and latrines.

Quick Impact:
Roving teams to repair lightly damaged buildings, provision of lost furniture, equipment and teaching materials.

Medium term:
Reconstructed heavily damaged and destroyed Islamic school buildings, using existing partners Muhammadiyah and Nahdlatual Ulama (NU).

Longer-term:
Options related to more substantial school reconstruction will be considered following the release of the Government’s Action Plan in mid-July. This may involve the provision of reconstruction funds to Ministry of Religious Affairs (MORA) and Ministry of National Education (MONE), through the AIP Basic Education Program.


Achievement:
•    29 schools constructed and furnished.
